Quote from Geoff Owen's Mens Anonymous interview

Jenny came to me because her twelve year old son had become hostile, remote and uncooperative. Working full time as a single parent left her stretched thin, and the tension at home was constant. Within a few weeks he began coming out of his room more often, wanting to be near her, helping around the house, and joining conversations he would once have avoided. Jenny now describes a far more harmonious relationship with her son, and has since found new confidence in her own life too, including a long term relationship she is genuinely happy in.

My little girl wasn’t napping for long or consistently, and was waking up multiple times a night. When I put her down in her cot she would wake up crying after thirty minutes. Working with Geoff, I stopped all the routines, took the blackout curtains down, and stopped being child centred. She naps for longer now, falls asleep more easily after a night wake, and it’s easier to feed her. I can meet up with friends, go out for lunch or dinner, and trust that my baby will sleep when she is ready.

Rene came to me because her daughter’s lack of cooperation, sometimes quite extreme, had left her trying bribery, coercion, and raising her voice more often than she wanted to. Within days of trying a different approach, she told me the results were instantaneous.

Rachael’s teenage son had become fussy and critical about her cooking, and it had become a real source of conflict between them. Not long after we began working together, he started suggesting recipes, and eventually cooking meals for her himself.

Julia felt so guilt ridden at the thought of not giving her toddler daughter her full attention that she had quietly put her own needs on hold. She now feels she has a life beyond being her daughter’s mother, and her relationship with her husband has improved considerably alongside it.
