Working with Me

This work begins with
a conversation,
not a programme.

Most parents arrive with a situation that is not shifting and a feeling that nothing they have tried is working. From there we look at what is driving it, understand what the child's biology is actually expecting, and begin to replace what has been missing. There are two ways we can work together, depending on where you are and what you need.

Before I found what became Biologically Aligned Parenting, I had already spent years researching how children actually develop, long before I became a parent myself. So by the time our own two children arrived, I was already aware of the conventional approach, naughty steps, sent to their room, grounding, rewards for good behaviour and consequences for bad. It is the same basic system used in prisons, in most schools, and a good deal of industry, built on B.F. Skinner's work with rats and pigeons. I understood it. I simply chose not to use it.

Instead, our two children learned to read and write largely through trial and error, figuring it out mostly themselves, without formal lessons, without a curriculum, without school at all until they were fifteen and sixteen. Both went on to university.

That research, and everything since, became two books. ODD: A Non-Clinical Approach to Children Who Say No takes on what I think is one of the most damaging habits in modern parenting, reaching for a diagnosis, ODD, ADHD, and the rest of what has become an alphabet of labels, and mistaking the label for understanding. A label tells you what to call something. It rarely tells you what it means, or what to actually do. The Parenting Assumption goes further, questioning the assumptions almost every parent absorbs without ever examining them, that behaviour is a conscious choice, that discipline reliably shapes development, that explaining more will fix things.

Since then I have worked with parents on the full range of what actually shows up at home, picky eating, aggressive or oppositional behaviour, a child who will not come off the Xbox. In every case, the pattern has been the same: less effort, less time, and less energy than whatever they were doing before, because the work addresses what is actually driving the behaviour, not the behaviour itself.

You're not a bad parent.
Take Back Your Sanity

Some evenings you arrive with little left to give, and it does not take long before something in you reacts in a way you would rather it had not. You know it is not who you are, and the not knowing why it keeps happening can weigh almost as much as the moment itself. This is not the start of a programme. It is a single, focused session to look at your child's behaviour through a different lens, and your own, so what has actually been going on becomes clear.

This is not a diagnosis of your child, and it is not a fix for everything. It is a conversation to discover what is actually driving your reactions toward your child, and how to bring greater calm when there feels like there is little left to give.

How every programme begins

Before We Begin

Every engagement, regardless of which programme you choose, begins with a dedicated session before any formal work starts. This is not an intake form or an administrative step. It is the first piece of real work. We go deep into your specific situation, your child, your home dynamic, and what you are hoping will change. From there we agree together on a precise and observable outcome. This session sets the foundation and the direction for everything that follows.

For a small number of families, longer-term, more bespoke work is available. If that sounds like what you need, get in touch to talk it through.

The Guarantee

If it has not arrived,
I stay until it does.

At the start of Tier Two, we agree on a specific observable outcome together. If it has not arrived by the end of the initial period, I stay with you until it does, at no extra charge.

I have never needed to invoke this. But it matters that it is there.

If any of this feels relevant,
I am open to a conversation.

No obligation. Forty five minutes. We simply talk about what is happening at home and whether there might be a different way of looking at things.
